Review

*No spoilers*

The Aravan Head is a well written thriller with amazing plot, well crafted characters and detailed description. Well, it’s not just a thriller themed book, it has much more in it. There are drama, action, love and what not? While reading you will feel like it is something like a south indian movie and you would imagine the scenes.

This book deals with various issues that people face here in India that includes corrupt political system, acceptance of LGBTQIA community people, smuggling, trafficking etc.

Title – “The Aravan Head”, the title itself is interesting and creates a curiosity inside to know what the title is all about. What would be the story? (I’m not going to give any hint :p)

Cover – Umm..All I can say about cover is, it could have been better. I mean it’s good but per my opinion it’s just okay okay type.

It’s totally an unpredictable kind of story which means you can’t just predict what will happen in the next scene.

Author Arvind has done a commendable job in describing the crime scenes using apt words and full justice to all the the characters in the story.

P.S. – This book was best thriller book written by an Indian author that I’ve ever read.

Rafflesia: The Banished Princess by Gautam~ Book Review

Title – Rafflesia: The Banished Princess

Author– Gautam

Publisher– Leadstart Publishing

Number of pages– 397 (quite thick)

Price – 265 INR

Blurb

The curtains draw up. Lights are dimmed. The musical is about to begin. As the beautiful princess descends on stage, the mythical creatures from her kingdom come alive. Flickers of brilliant colours blaze across as mesmerizing music pulsates from one corner of the theatre to the other. A fairy tale is about to unfold…

As young children, we often come across things that stay in our hearts forever. For Appu, it is a fairy tale about a beautiful princess. He lives with her in a world filled with the magical creatures from her kingdom until the real world beckons. A reluctant Appu steps into it as a striking young man and struggles to find his place.

What follows is an evocative tale of love and loss, friendship and betrayal, as the story travels through the snow-peaked mountains of Arunachal to the golden deserts of Jaisalmer, the tulip gardens of
Holland to the lush greens of Kerala. Does Appu find what he had set out for? The answer lies in Rafflesia — The Banished Princess because in her story, lay his!”

Review

*Rafflesia the Banished Princess is Author’s debut book.*

To be honest, at first I thought it would be some fantasy genre book as the cover says it all but no! I was wrong and if you too are thinking that the story would be some fantasy related then let me burst the bubble. It’s not a fantasy related book. It’s more of a family related one. Totally different from what you would imagine it to be.

The story is about Appu’s ( that is Apurva Sharma) journey, about the struggles he faces, about his professional life, family and love life. The story oscillates between his present and past life. An intense story which can make you cry at times.

Title

Title is something that is totally a turn off for me. I mean Rafflesia the banished princess was actually one of the two books that has been given to him by his grandfather that he cherishes a lot.

Cover

Okay Okay types. It could have been much better.

Characterisation

Characterisation has been done brilliantly too but I couldn’t relate with the character of Appu’s for he is very reserve kind of person who keeps everything to himself.

Writing style

It’s something which can be said as better than the story. The language and the writing style is commendable. Simple yet amazing.

Overall it’s a kind of book that gives us sad vibes also it’s a slow kind of read because you would feel that the story has been dragged a bit after 150-200 pages. I would recommend it to the readers who look for intense and slow paced read.

I rate it 3 out 5 stars.

Parrot under the Pine Tree is the powerful expression of love. In the girl’s heart; it’s subtle, sublime and eternal. But in the boy’s heart; it’s earthy, insecure and restless. The anxiety brings the two young hearts close. In the clean and tranquil environs of Kausani, Vedanta inadvertently meets Saranga under bizarre circumstances and both fall in love with each other. But Alas! Their happiness doesn’t last long. On one fateful night of temptation, the storm that blows up not only consumes his heart and soul, but also shreds that of Saranga into pieces. On insistence of her grandma Saranga agrees to give a second chance to a repentant Vedanta. But misgivings remain in her heart. Will Kausani rework the magic again between the estranged couple?

Review

Parrot Under the Pine Tree is basically a story about love and heartbreak.

The story revolves around two young people (protagonists) Vedanta and Saranga where Vedanta comes to a beautiful village, Kausani, in a hilly region and his path crosses with that of Saranga and as usual what happens in a typical love story happened here too, they fell in love. Later they got married and a year later gave birth to a child and named him Dhruv.
Everything was going perfect until one day Vedanta was found cheating on his wife, Saranga.
He felt guilty of what he had done and wanted his wife back but she wasn’t ready to forgive, to give him a second chance.

The description is something that I liked the most. The author had done a commendable job when it comes to the description. And here if I talk about the cover and the title of the book, the cover is something that can be called as soothing. I mean it’s beautiful indeed and title is something unique, I mean unique in the sense like most of the love stories has this cliché kind of titles starts with “the guy/boy, the girl” but also it remain unjustified. The cover and the title  together was something that first attracted me towards the book but the story left me disappointed as it has nothing new to offer.

The story makes Akshara hopeful that she can perhaps see her dead mother again. But she soon realizes that Harry isn’t what he seems to be. Even the characters in his story seem dubious, almost unreal. So what is he hiding? And why? Is there any truth to his story at all?In this darkly suspenseful romance mystery, Akshara is left facing a truth that will make her doubt not just Harry but herself as well . . .

Review

The girl who knew too much is the story of Akshara, a 12 year old girl, who is devastated with her mother’s death. She always comes to this garden/local park where one day she meets Harry (Harvinder Singh) who tries to lessen her grief by telling her his love story, one sided love story.  He narrates her a story about his love, Sahiba and her lover, Siddharth whom he has nicknamed “Ugly nails”.

The book starts off very well with nice description however, as you will read further you will find it being dragged a little bit.
The first thing that will attract you to buy this book is it’s cover page. It’s attractive indeed but talking about the title of the book, it is something I really disliked. I mean it’s a trend or what to start a book’s title with ” the girl, the boy…”

Coming up to the blurb of the book, it is something that is misleading and is nowhere close to what the plot is all about.

The narration was good, characterization was good too. Overall, it’s not a type of book that I really loved/liked but giving it a read or not is all up to you.

Review

Karma by kevin missal is a paranormal psychological thriller that left me amazed, seriously. The story begins with a robbery and murder that took place 8 years back and is followed by how the culprits face the results of their deeds. Karman finds that his wife, Urvi,  has come back after 8 years of her death. How could someone who died long back can come back? What is the purpose behind her come back? And what happens when she come back? Well to get all the answers you need to buy this book because I’m not going to tell you that 😛

The cover and title of the book, both are really appealing and apt also it says lot about what is inside that will surely going to let you instantly buy this book.

It is a very short yet crisp story that would keep you guessing till the end because it is the end that left me amazed. Your prediction about the ending will be proved wrong and I can bet you on that. It is one of kind type of book that will let you hooked on to it from the very beginning till the end. It has the vibe of a horror film indeed.

Viraj falls head over heels in love with his classmate Nimisha, who could make boys on campus go crazy. While his friends Punit and Sahil just want to have fun – despite poor mark-sheets, grace marks to pass, and other everyday adventures – Viraj wants more from his life and love.

Life has led Viraj to the edge of a cliff. He has a choice to make – to forget everything and jump, or fight.

What brought him here? An unrequited love, encounters with law, or the dilemma of grace marks? Where does Viraj’s story eventually end?

Welcome to 37 + Grace Marks, Viraj’s journey to discover that there is more to life than marks.

Review

37+ Grace Marks is YA Romance fiction novella which revolves around love, college life, and teenage problems. It’s a story about a young guy named Viraj, an engineering student, and his friends. His life was all good when he joined the college but the things change for him as he falls in love, at first sight with a confident, pretty girl named Nimisha. It’s about engineering college and the happenings there, those boring days, the funny moments and pressure of studies.

Coming up to the title of the book it is interesting but for me, the book could have been better with some other title. The subtitle is what I loved more than the title. The cover is catchy, apt and suggests us about the genre and content. The language used in the book is simple but there was something I didn’t like about that..I mean though the language was simple and easy to comprehend still I didn’t connect well with it. There were few errors too. The narration is done in First Person and is done well but could be improved in next book for better reading experience. The Author has tried well to portray the characters. However, Characters of the book lack depth and that’s the reason why I was unable to relate to them.

This book is simple and has nothing new to give in the plates of the readers. However, the storytelling is something that can bind you with the book. Scenes are written well and they flow smoothly while the story goes off sync in the mid pages.

Overall it’s a light read and is ideal for all those people who likes YA with a common story and easy language.
